Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a technique that is widely-used in counselling, psychotherapy, and coaching. CBT’s popularity is based on research showing how effective it is in helping people to solve problems with positive results.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy targets the patterns of negative thought and behaviour that many of us find ourselves trapped in and prevent us from dealing with the obstacles that we face on a daily basis.
CBT is particularly useful if you are suffering from depression, anxiety, or low self esteem, and is an ideal method of therapy for people who do not want to use medication to combat their mental health issues.
Unlocking the real you
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a highly effective tool that can unlock you from negative thoughts, emotions and actions. When using CBT, problems are broken down into five main areas:
- Physical feelings
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is based on the concept that these five areas are interconnected and affect one another. For example, your thoughts about a certain situation can often affect how you feel both physically and emotionally, as well as how you act in response.
During cognitive behavioural therapy, you and your therapist will work together to identify and discuss problems and challenge your negative thinking patterns, and you will be encouraged to set goals for yourself. As you achieve your goals your confidence builds, enabling you to move further out of your comfort zone and show yourself that your irrational thoughts were holding you back from a happy and fulfilled life.
